The sixty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66) is currently taking place (March 14 to 25, 2022) under the overall topic “Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes”.
The World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) joined the event to reiterate the importance of empowering women, specifically women farmers, and including them in the debates about climate change, disaster risk reduction, natural resources management, at all levels.
- On March 21, the WFO Member Organisation Indian Co-operative Network for Women (ICNW) hosted the virtual side event “COVID – Heroines Women micro-entrepreneurs warriors combat COVID 19 – Working Women’s Forum/Indian Cooperative Network for Women“.
WFO Head of Policy Development Luisa Volpe has been invited to participate and contribute to the event by bringing WFO’s perspective on the role of women and agricultural cooperatives to enhance their position economically and socially. READ MORE
- On March 22, Kati Partanen, a farmer from Finland and facilitator of the WFO Women Committee, participated in the expert panel “Building resilient futures: Bridging the gap between the physical science and social science communities to advance gender equality in the context of climate change, environment and disaster risk reduction“.
Kati Partanen was selected to make an oral intervention to address the panel and took the opportunity to remind the audience about the importance of empowering women, specifically women farmers, and including them in the debates about climate change, disaster risk reduction, natural resources management, at all levels.
Also, the WFO Women Committee facilitator made a specific call to the governments to engage farmers’ organisations, with their participatory structure and approach, in all policy processes and debates to provide concrete, fair and effective solutions to global challenges.Please view the recording HERE
