The 11th Meeting of the International Steering Committee of the UN Decade of Family Farming 2019-2028 (UNDFF) will take place on Tuesday, May 14, at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Headquarters in Rome, Italy

The UNDFF International Steering Committee (ISC) has been established to oversee the development and implementation of the Decade of Family Farming, monitor activities, and provide guidance. ISC members include representatives of FAO and IFAD, a regionally representative group of Member States, and regional and global farmers’ organizations, such as the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO).

On the same day, FAO will host the second technical discussion of “The Future of Family Farming” series. This series of technical meetings aims to reflect on the meaning of family farming today, the major trends affecting family farming, and possible future transformation pathways. The cycle of discussions will culminate on the occasion of the Mid-term Forum of the UNDFF, which will be organized in FAO HQ, Rome, in October 2024.

This second technical meeting, convened under the central theme “Family farming and climate-resilient agrifood systems”, will focus on main policy convergences and divergences between the environmental and climate agenda and family farming priorities.

Ms Luisa Volpe, Head of Advocacy, Policy and Partnership at the WFO International Secretariat, has been invited to address the event and bring the farmers’ perspective into the discussion.
