AgMission™: a groundbreaking initiative uniting farmers and scientists to advance climate-smart agriculture practices
“We are in AgMission™ because producers believe science can help us to tackle the climate challenge, while science needs to listen to producers’ voices to shape solutions that are fit for purpose, scalable and sustainable, socially, environmentally and economically.”
Arianna Giuliodori, WFO Secretary General
Conceived by The Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) and the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO), AgMission™ aims to tackle climate change and achieve net zero agriculture for greenhouse gas emissions by mobilizing unparalleled collaboration between farmers and scientists.
By harnessing the power of research and data, AgMission™ is working to increase access to agricultural information in novel and inventive ways and fill research gaps as a public good.
The initiative points to connect farmers and researchers, aiming to generate and disseminate scientific-based reports and practical insights. Final beneficiaries of the initiative will be 1.5 billion farmers from all over the world, including young farmers, 50% of which will be women.
Within the framework of the AgMission™ initiative, WFO has been granted to develop a novel farmer-driven methodology to consult producers on a global scale and collect unique data and insights on their climate-smart agriculture needs and expectations. The farmer-driven, comparable data and insights that result from this methodology will inform research and implementation projects supporting the growing need for on-farm resiliency and will be used to support national, regional and global initiatives working towards accelerating the transition to climate-smart agriculture.
The methodology will be tested with the involvement of Clim-Eat and farmers will be included at every step of the process to ensure inclusivity and representation. The methodology will become a scientific, inclusive, and representative tool to guide farmers in addressing their priorities in decision-making processes at all levels.
AgMission™ is supported by the partners McDonald’s USA, PepsiCo and The Nature Conservancy, and will run until December 2023.
