The 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) will convene from 11 to 22 November in Baku, Azerbaijan. This event comes at a crucial time as the world grapples with record-breaking temperatures and increasingly severe weather events, making urgent climate action more imperative than ever. Discussions at COP 29 will focus on pivotal topics, ranging from defining a new collective quantified goal (NCQG) on finance to mitigation and loss and damage.

Over the twelve days, world leaders, negotiators, government representatives, and key stakeholders will gather to debate and assess measures to combat climate change.

This year, the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) will again actively participate in the conference, shining a spotlight on farmers’ significant contributions and championing the crucial role of agriculture in climate solutions.

The WFO delegation, led by Board Members Keith Currie, Kati Partanen, and Gunsham Seeborun, alongside WFO Secretary General Andrea Porro, will include representatives from member organisations, such as the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA), Confederazione Italiana Agricoltori (CIA), Danish Agriculture and Food Council (DAFC), F.A.L.C.O.N. Association, Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF), Georgian Farmers Association (GFA), Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF), Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK – Finland), National Smallholder Farmers’ Association of Malawi (NASFAM), National Farmers’ Federation (NFF – Australia), and National Farmers’ Union of England and Wales (NFU UK).

Members of WFO’s International Secretariat, including Luisa Volpe, Valeria Di Marzo, Ambra Raggi, Francesco Brusaporco, Lorenzo Marelli, and Macaulay Jones, will also join the delegation.

In a joint effort with fellow farmers’ organisations within the UNFCCC Farmers’ Constituency, the WFO delegation will urge world leaders and policymakers at COP 29 in Baku to fully recognise farmers’ essential role in climate efforts. They will advocate for greater integration of farmers’ knowledge and priorities in all decisions affecting agriculture. WFO delegates will actively engage in key sessions and events throughout COP 29. Please refer to the complete event list below for a comprehensive overview of the events where WFO representatives will contribute their perspectives and expertise.
