On November 25th, 2019, a delegation of the World Farmers’ Organisation, led by the Secretary-General Arianna Giuliodori, met at FAO premises in Rome, Thanawat Tiensin, the newly appointed chair of the UN Committee on World Food Security (CFS).
Trained veterinarian and livestock expert, Tiensin has been serving as the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Rome-based UN Agencies.
During the Committee’s 46th Plenary Session held last October, Tiensin has been unanimously selected as the new CFS chairperson, replacing Mario Arvelo.
What we can best hope for is that new conversations are opened to ensure farmers will have a stronger and stronger voice in the international and intergovernmental debate on food security and nutrition for all.
