From September 25 to 27, 2023, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will host the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.  

 The Conference will convene representatives of FAO Members, producer organizations, research and academic institutions, development agencies, civil society organizations and private sector bodies to engage in dialogues on innovations and pathways to efficiently produce more nutritious, safe and accessible animal-source foods with a reduced environmental footprint, and build vibrant local and diversified livestock systems that are more resilient to shocks and disruptions and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

Representatives from the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) will be actively participating in the three-day event. The delegation includes the Board Member Ms Elizabeth Nsimadala, the Secretary General Ms Arianna Giuliodori, and Dr Frédéric Leroy, a member of the WFO Scientific Council.  Jesus David Ocampo Gonzalez, the Secretary of Rural Youth for the National Association of Goat Farmers from Panama, and Noi Paulina Selepe, the Chairperson of the Lesotho Young Farmers Association, will also be joining the delegation on behalf of the wider WFO youth network.

Concurrently, within the framework of the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation, FAO, in collaboration with UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union, is organizing the Global Youth Dialogue on Sustainable Livestock Transformation.

A delegation of WFO young representatives will participate in the dialogue, including Ana Carolina Zimmermann, a young livestock farmer from Brazil and current member of the Gymnasium program; Josiane Irakarama, a young farmer from Rwanda and Gymnasium Alumna; and João Ricardo de Morais Neto, a WFO Advocacy, Policy and Partnership intern working on WFO youth issues.
