The Farmers’ Forum is a bottom-up dialogue on rural development and poverty reduction between farmers’ organizations, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFADhttps://www.ifad.org/en/) and governments. The Forum guides IFAD operations and identifies opportunities for partnerships.

The 2024 global meeting brings together more than 80 farmers’ leaders from around the world, representing millions of smallholders and rural producers who work with IFAD and partner institutions. The meeting will take stock of progress, strengths and areas to improve, as well as how to strengthen co-ownership and participation.

The WFO will join the 8th Global meeting of the farmers’ Forum with the WFO Secretary General, Dr Andrea Porro, and a delegation of 9 farmers’ leaders’ representatives that includes the WFO Board Member for the Asia Constituency, Mr Sok Sotha, Ms Tamisha Lee, President of the Jamaican Network of Rural Women Producers, Ms Meena Pokhrel from the Nepal Agricultural Co-operatie Central Federation, Mr Manuel Etcheveherre from Sociedad Rural Argentina and Mr Balbino Benitez from UAN – National Agricultural Union.
The group also includes four young farmers representatives: Harbert Mawejje from the Uganda National Farmers Federation, Marlize Grobbelaar from Southern Africa Agricultural Initiative, Viet Ha Nguyen Thi from the Vietnam Farmers’ Union and Evangelista Chekera from the Zimbabwe Farmers’ Union.

On Tuesday 13, The WFO SG, DR Andrea Porro will chair a thematic discussion on “Climate change resilience and biodiversity conservation: opportunities and challenges for further partnership between Farmers’ Organizations and IFAD and to leverage financing, including through payments for ecological services,” from 10.15 to 11.15 AM.

On the same day, Ms Elizabeth Nsimadala, WFO Board Member for the African Constituency and President of the Eastern Africa Farmers Federation (EAFF) will moderate the FAFO2024 side event focused on “Strengthening Farmers’ Organisations’ capacities to support sustainable food systems transformation and resilience,” from 2.30 to 3.30 PM.

During the closing session, from 4.30 to 5 PM, the WFO Board Member for the Asian Constituency, Mr Sok Sotha, will deliver his remarks on behalf of the Steering Committee of the Farmers’ Forum.
