WFO and AgMission™ Reveal First Global Producers’ Consultation Key Findings on Climate-Smart Agriculture at COP 28
Dubai, United Arab States, December 9, 2023 – As the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28) continues, and leading up to the “Food, Agriculture and Water Day”, the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO), together with the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR), is pleased to announce the release of the report “Climate-Smart Agriculture: First Global Producers’ Consultation.”
The report highlights key findings and strategic priorities identified by farmers worldwide, as they transition towards climate-smart agriculture. This publication results from the first producer-led global consultation on climate-smart agriculture launched on May 21 with an in-person dialogue during the WFO 2023 Annual Meeting.
“The insights gathered in this report are not just statistics; they represent the authentic voices and needs of producers worldwide,” said WFO President Arnold Puech d’Alissac. “On behalf of the world’s farmers, we look forward to collaborating with scientists and researchers to see our needs and expectations on climate-smart agriculture translated into viable, scalable and sustainable solutions.”
The Global Producers’ Consultation was funded by AgMission™, a global initiative co-created by FFAR and WFO to unlock agriculture’s potential to address climate change.
“Only by directly engaging with producers can we co-create scalable solutions to address the climate change challenge,” said AgMission Program Director Allison Thomson. “The Global Producers Consultation will help inform AgMission’s research agenda and ensure we are funding actionable research that producers need and can realistically deploy on their farms.”
This publication marks a crucial step in building bridges between farmers and scientists in the spirit of co-creation of a research agenda that boosts the adoption of climate-smart agriculture practices, unlocking agriculture’s potential to be a powerful climate solution.
