Rome, Italy – September 07, 2023 – The World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) is pleased to announce that the 2024 WFO General Assembly will take place at the FAO premises in Rome, Italy, from June 18 to 20, 2024.
Annually gathering hundreds of family farmers, young and women farmer leaders, farmers’ organisations and agricultural cooperatives from across the globe, as well as other relevant stakeholders such as government representatives, multilateral institutions, academia, scientists, private sectors, civil society groups, and financial institutions, the WFO Annual Meeting is a vibrant and inclusive platform for forward-looking dialogues, knowledge exchange, and multi-stakeholder collaboration to advance global agri-food systems’ sustainability.
FAO and WFO have been working together since 2014, during the International Year of Family Farming. Their partnership was formalised in 2018 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was then renewed in January 2023. As part of this effort, FAO was in full support of WFO’s proposal to hold its annual meeting at FAO headquarters in Rome.
“We are grateful to FAO for this decision to open its doors to the World Farmers Organisation. It confirms the importance that we mutually attribute to our partnership, and it offers a chance to family farmers and their organised structures from all over the world to visit the heart of the global political dialogue on Food and Agriculture,” commented the WFO President Arnold Puech d’Alissac.
The WFO 2024 Annual Meeting represents an advantageous momentum for enhancing and promoting the centrality of farmers in designing successful pathways to achieve more sustainable agrifood systems for our people and our planet, to respond to global challenges, to share innovation and safeguard biodiversity.
